Dr. Pamela de Cordova is an assistant professor in nursing at Rutgers, the State University of NJ. She also works as a researcher for the state-legislated New Jersey Collaboration Center (NJCCN.org) studying issues concerning the nursing workforce in the state. Topics evaluated by the NJCCN include the educational preparation and diversity of the nursing workforce, as well as state policies and regulations that impact the nurse workforce and public health. She obtained her PhD from Columbia University School of Nursing in 2011 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. Trained in health services research, Dr. de Cordova’s background includes conducting staffing research on off-shifts and its association to patient outcomes. Currently, her research specifically focuses on improving patient safety in acute care hospitals by examining policy legislations and workforce conditions. Dr. de Cordova has over 15 years of active clinical experience in post-operative nursing care; this background has allowed her to directly provide care to hospitalized patients and provide her with perspective on the powerful impact of research and policy on improving quality in hospitals.
