Dr. Setoguchi, a pharmacoepidemiologist and physician in the Center for Pharmacoepidemiology and Treatment Sciences (PETS), is an associate professor of medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and associate professor of epidemiology at the Rutgers School of Public Health. Combining clinical background and advanced training in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, she published widely in her research area, comparative safety and effectiveness of medications and devices in patients with chronic diseases, especially those with cardiovascular disease and endpoints using large databases and registries in US and other countries. Her research interests also include methodological issues (1) conducting data linkage and evaluating linkage methods for pharmacoepidemiology and CER, (2) evaluating validity of information in databases, design-based and analytic methods for valid pharmacoepidemiologic studies and CER, and (3) assessing, understanding, and controlling for healthy user bias in medication users and healthy candidate bias in device recipients. The results of her research have been published in British Medical Journal, Archives of Internal Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, Canadian Medical Association Journal, Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Stroke, Journal of American Geriatric Society, American Journal of Epidemiology, Epidemiology, and Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety.

Dr. Setoguchi is a Fellow of the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (FISPE) and has taught basic, practical, and advanced courses in pharmacoepidemiology in courses at Harvard School of Public Health, and Duke University and at national and international conferences (including ICPE and ACPE) and seminars.
