Scholars to Examine Cross-Cultural Issues and High-Tech Medicine

Scholars representing anthropology, history, health, politics, medicine, ethnic studies and other disciplines will gather at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick on June 11-12 for a two-day conference to explore the geographical and cultural significance of the death of Jessica Santillan last year. The conference, "Beyond the Bungled Transplant - Jessica Santillan and High-Tech Medicine in Cultural Perspective" is being organized by Keith Wailoo (Professor of History), Peter Guarnaccia (Professor of Human Ecology) who are both faculty at the Institute for Health and Julie Livingston (Assistant Professor of History). Friday's keynote address by Nancy Scheper-Hughes is open to the public and is scheduled to begin at 4:15 PM.
