Institute Faculty Deliver Distinguished Lectures

Several of our faculty have given the following recent distinguished lectures: David Mechanic presented the Benjamin Rush Lecture at the annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association in New York, NY. His presentation, "The Changing Face of Mental Health Services: Is The Cup Half Empty or Half Full?" was presented on May 3, 2004. Allan Horwitz presented the keynote address, "Discarding Depression, Discovering Distress: Distinguishing the Psychological Consequences of Stressful Social Arrangements," at the Ninth International Conference on Social Stress in Montreal, Canada, May 2004. He also gave a plenary address at the Center for Ethics and Values in the Sciences at the University of Alabama, Birmingham entitled, "Creating Mental Illness in Community Populations," and a plenary address, "The Social Construction of Ubiquitous Major Depression" at the Conference on Depression: What is it Good for? Society of Fellows, University of Chicago, March 2004. Kathleen J. Pottick presented the keynote address, "Trends in Mental Health Services for Children and Youth: Implications for Workforce Training and Deployment" at the 21st annual meeting of the National Association for Children’s Behavioral Health, May 23-26, 2004 in Washington, D.C.
