WEBCAST: Confronting Institutionalized Racism

The Institute will broadcast the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health's 25th Annual Minority Health Conference's keynote address on Friday, February 28, 2003 from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. The 5th Annual William T. Small, Jr. Keynote Lecture on "Confronting Institutionalized Racism" will be delivered by Camara P. Jones, M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D., Research Director on Social Determinants of Health, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Health policy is both the starting point and outcome of public health work, and plays a major role in the fight to reduce racial/ethnic health disparities. These policies affect the conduct of research, the development of interventions, and the provision of care. However, health policy decisions are often influenced by political, social, and/or economic realities. The goal of this conference is to explore the development and implementation of health policy as it relates to minority populations.
