Latest Findings in Children's Mental Health, Vol. 1, No. 2

Almost 120,000 preschoolers under the age of six, or one out of 200, received mental health services in the US during 1997, according to the first study to provide reliable, national estimates of young children’s use of mental health services. For complete details, read the Fall 2002 Issue Brief (Vol. 1, No. 2). These results are the second to be released by the three-year, public-private collaboration whose goal is to provide policymakers with a timely, nonpartisan assessment of equity in children’s mental health care. The analysis is ongoing; periodic bulletins focusing on specific populations of children are scheduled.

Collaborators include Kathleen J. Pottick, principal investigator, and Lynn A. Warner, faculty at the Institute and School of Social Work; Ronald W. Manderscheid, Marilyn Henderson and Laura Milazzo-Sayre from the HHS Center for Mental Health Services; and Mareasa Isaacs and the KIDS COUNT initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The first Issue Brief, (Vol. 1, No. 1) is still available.
